Taking the mystery out of Mystery Shopping

Posted on June 16, 2005 | 3 Comments

I’ve added an article about mystery shopping which I’m pretty sure you’ll find interesting. Well, I’m somewhat fascinated by this whole idea of mystery shopping. It’s not common here in Asia although goodness knows how something like this would help improve areas of customer service which are so sadly lacking.

Some businesses seem to be interested only in making a sale without a thought for good customer service. For example, it was only recently that certain stores started accepting exchanges and returns.

If companies here were to start signing up mystery shoppers, I’d be the first in line (LOL). I mean who could resist? You get to shop, you get to play “I spy”, you get to complain about bad customer service, and you get paid too? Cool.

On the flip side, the article seems to dispel the glamor of mystery shopping and threatens to reveal the other side of the hype. Okay, this is where my wisdom ends and I have to take the author’s word for it. Mystery shoppers out there, what do you have to say?

I’m curious as to whether you have found any companies that give mystery shopping jobs in Asia. I sometimes get inquiries on the contact form on my website about mystery shopping, asking that question. Since I’m in the US, I don’t know the answer.

I think the article is accurate. Anyone who takes the time to look for the jobs, sign up with the companies, and build a good track record with them, will end up getting a lot more jobs over time and can then build more of an income from it.

I wish, Karen but I haven’t seen anything like this here yet since I posted this :( .

I’m sure they will in the near future. The mystery shopping industry is growing and entering new markets and industries. It’s only a matter of time before the importance of mystery shopping will become apparent in Asia.
