Lucky traditions for your business

The Chinese people are traditionally very business-minded. So a lot of the Chinese New Year (CNY) traditions are centered around greetings and things that bring business success and wealth.
Want to know how to set the stage for business success all year round? Here’s what you do…
Hang the upside down ‘fu’ character at your work space or place of business. The combination of the character ‘fu’ written upside down is symbolic of the arrival of good luck and wealth. Any entrepreneur could live with that, don’t you agree?
Price your products and services based on lucky numbers. The number 8 is a hot favorite because its pronunciation in Chinese sounds like ‘prosper or strike it rich’. So during the CNY season, you’ll find mandarin oranges priced at $8.88 or tour packages priced at $888.
To pick a lucky date to reopen for business, think even numbers. Even numbered days are considered lucky, the 2nd and 8th day of CNY being the most popular.
Even better, kick off your opening day with a lion dance to chase off the bad luck and to ring in the good luck for business. The lion spits out mandarin oranges (‘kam’ being the homophone for ‘gold’) and red envelopes (‘lai si’ means good luck) from their mouths as it dances around. Lion dances are loud and festive. Every move the lion makes has a meaning and the professional dances are really a joy to watch.
If you want your business to prosper, red’s the auspicious color. Black and white are big no-nos. Dress up in red from head to toe if you dare (LOL – no, I’m just kidding). Wear something red, or else dress up your store or website in red.
Do the above this Year of the Dog and prepare to enjoy a business year whose bark is as lucky as its bite! Woof!
