Are you really the boss?

Do you sometimes catch yourself saying, “I’m the boss, I can do whatever I want whenever”? Do you really believe this is true if you own a business and run it yourself (like many of us here do).

I don’t think so. We may be our own boss but if you think about it, it’s our customers who are our bosses. They pay us for a product or service and they expect to have it delivered.

So although it may seem like we can do whatever we want whenever, we still have to deliver to our customers whatever they want whenever they want it. Sure we could negotiate the details of the delivery but ultimately, we still have to deliver.

If we were truly our own boss in all senses of the word, we would be under no obligation to fulfill anyone’s order or request. What do you think?
