Weekday traffic

Posted on November 27, 2007 | 1 Comment

I’m noticing that quite a number of stores at the malls have closed down. It’s hard to survive solely on weekend business. Shopping malls don’t get a lot of foot traffic on weekdays. Being a work at home mom, I prefer to shop on weekdays to avoid the crowd and I notice how quiet the place is.

During the holiday season, there may be a slight increase in traffic from tourists. But other than that, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a food store or one selling bathroom vanities, I think they barely make enough to cover the high overheads.

I think the malls should try to organize some promotional events or reduce the parking rates on weekdays to generate more business. As it is, most stores only seem to have promos on weekends.

Yeah, other than the major department stores, it’s the holiday shopping season that makes or breaks a store. My aunts own a store in our mall, and not much goes on there most of the year, but they can’t keep Yankee Candles and Webkins on the shelves during the holiday season. Luckily for regular retailers, sales were up, and higher than projected on Black Friday.
