The risk of buying used
Posted on December 24, 2007 | 2 Comments
A friend of mine who’s just started working from home recently bought a used cisco router in his attempt to keep his cost of capital low. He found someone selling this router very cheaply at an online forum and bought it.
Now a week in, the router is dead. In trying to save a bit of money, he’s wasted even more money. This is why I don’t believe in buying used equipment. You just never know when it’s going to die on you.
So I’d rather spend a bit more for something that comes with a warranty. At least then, even if it breaks, you still have your warranty to fall back on.

Time and time again I have fallen into this trap. I now teach my children to save and then buy brand new, good quality equipment. Sure….It costs more but it is covered by warranty and has given them confidence when something does go wrong.
I sell Darts and Accessories and we are never the cheapest, but we have 100% Satisfaction gurantees. We compete from that aspect.
As a buyer, buy brand new, its better in the long term.
Merry Christmas to All.
That is too bad. It is awful that he got ripped off. Can he report that seller to ebay?
