Subjecting customers to optical illusions

One of the things that irritates me most is when businesses try to confuse the customer. I’ve been tricked many times into buying a grocery item at a higher price simply because the price banner for another similar but cheaper item was placed so close to it that I thought it applied to that item.
For instance, a certain flavor of toothpaste may be on sale and the rest are not. But the lower price is emphasized making me think that all the flavors in the immediate vicinity are also on sale.
By the time I get to the front of the checkout line, it’s too late to turn back and I usually end up just telling them not to ring up that item. As a budget-conscious WAHM wearing many hats, I just grab my groceries and run.
And frankly I don’t have the time of day to run back and forth just because someone decides to create these unnecessary optical illusions in the hopes that I won’t notice.
