How trained staff can improve customer satisfaction

I went to my regular optician to buy my contact lens solution. He’d just stepped out so I was attended to by one of his staff.

I was trying to redeem my purchase against some points that I’d earned in a rewards card. But apparently his staff had no idea how to process the transaction.

He was just pacing around the store with the handheld device which he had no idea how to operate. So finally he took down all my details and let me leave with my purchase since I’m a regular there.

When I got home, I got several phone calls from the guy asking me to go back to the store to complete my transaction. What a hassle! This shouldn’t have happened if the store had bothered to train their staff.
