Where have the warehouse sales gone?
Posted on February 27, 2009 | 1 Comment
I’m wondering what’s happened to all the warehouse sales that the big trading and electronics companies used to have on a regular basis. At one time, they were hugely popular.
There was practically a few warehouse sales on every weekend and I remember I practically had to don UGG boots to wade through the goods spread out all over the warehouse floors.
There was always a bargain to be found. The only things to watch out for were defective and outdated products, and expiry dates in the case of tangible foods.
I wonder why I haven’t seen any warehouse sales advertised in the papers lately. That’s where I used to get real bargains for things I needed in my home office.

I’ve never actually been to one of those warehouse sales you’re referring to, but I suspect the reason is that margins are getting too thin. They’ve constantly got to fight to stay profitable, so if they had warehouse sales, people would not buy at full price and instead wait for the sale. Also, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the stores are getting more crowded as they try to squeeze more value from the existing space. They probably just don’t have room anymore.
