meet mr golf

We have a golf freak in the house! No, let me rephrase that. He’s hardly in the house so how can I say we have a golf freak in the house?

Let’s just say we have a golf freak amongst us. He’s tried every which way to convert me and the kids to Golfism, the religion that he speaks! Our 3 kids got converted but I’m pretty comfortable staying a textbook golfer, thank you.

As you can well imagine, our home is practically a golf store. We have Titleist golf bags, Ping golf balls, Taylor Made drivers, putters, irons coming out our ears! If he brings home one more golf club, I swear we’d have to sleep outside because there just won’t be room!

So there’s our very own Mr Golf for ya!

do I have time for a vacation?

There’s been so much competition amongst the airline companies lately that it seems crazy not to go on vacation. Air tickets are going for a song. Frankly it doesn’t take much to get me building castles in the air about jetting off to the Caribbeans maybe.

To match the low cost of flying, I’ve found an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean offered at Vacations.net with 50% savings off regular rates.

Whoa! I must be dreaming. Hmm, I can hear the sound of distant music and my toes are starting to twitch!! Okay, but first I have to find out where the Caribbeans are. Woot, found this on their website together with tons of other useful information.

It allows me to make my bookings right away. The process is pretty simple and it does all the calculations for discounts and value-added offers for me. Sweet! Once I’m done with that, I can go pack my imaginary suitcase then!

a tricycle table beckons!

Call me wierd but I get a rush just browsing around a furniture shop. I get all these ideas popping up in my head about the places where a certain piece of furniture would look good in a home.

For instance, I saw this fabulous tricycle table at Studio RTA Furniture and my imagination’s running wild with it. Gotta love it!

I’m thinking it would look gorgeous beside a bay window with the sunlight streaming in.

Or if I place it just beside the front door, would it get lonely and peddle away one day when I’m not looking?

Nah, it’s got too much character to be hidden away. Gosh, a piece like this would look stunning right smack in the middle of the nowhere!

the other side of the hiring fence

Would you believe it? I once helped my friend at her executive search company sourcing and placing job seekers in the hopes of finding a job for myself too.

The irony of it was I was so busy recruiting that I never found the time to find myself a job  . In many ways, her company was like A.E. Feldman Associates, Inc.

As recruiters, we worked really had on both sides of the job search equation, trying to bring together the best match between companies and the candidates they were looking for.

We recruited all levels of staff but focused mainly upwards from middle-level executives and management. It was an eye-opening few months for me looking at things from the recruitment angle as opposed to trying to fill up my own staff vacancies in my earlier job.

fullmoon party

I’m glad I went to my neighbor’s fullmoon party last night. The food was sumptuous. It is customary to celebrate a newborn’s fullmoon, or first month by distributing red eggs, saffron rice and sweet desserts to friends and family.

Some families also throw a party or invite friends and family to a sit-down dinner at a restaurant or hotel. Well, my neighbor’s daughter-in-law had a baby boy last month and we were invited to their buffet party.

Instead of cooking up a storm at home, they hired some caterers. The kids and I had a feast. The usual hot favorites were chicken curry, spring rolls, deepfried chicken wings, fish fillet and fried rice and noodles.

What we didn’t expect were the yummy braised pork ribs, ’satay’ (beef and chicken kebabs), soy bean milk, sugarcane juice and shaved ice. Now those really got us going back for seconds! And yes, I seriously need to get to the gym tomorrow morning  .

distance learning through appreciative coaching

I don’t have as much time to read as I’d like to. But when I do read, I enjoy an inspirational book like one I recently came across entitled “Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change”.

It’s a book co-authored by Sara Orem, PhD, a faculty member of the School of Business and Technology at Capella University, an accredited university of distance learning.

Appreciative Coaching uses a four-pronged approach to guiding readers through the processes of “discovery, dream, design and destiny”. The processes inspire them to appreciate and empower themselves and their future.

I like the idea of self-empowerment. Sounds like a definite must-read that I should add to my reading list.

if I were a wealthy mom

If I had to pick one place I’d like to live in, I’d pick Southern California. The weather is simply beautiful. I’m not a sun love so mild weather like that is only something I can dream about.

It’s hard not to fall in love with San Diego especially. It has a certain attraction in its beautiful beaches and homes. Gosh, I’m sure some of that san diego real estate must cost a fortune!

In fact, the luxury home market is very strong right now around the Southern Californian region. The cost: a cool million! Now if I were a wealthy mom, I’d know where to invest my money ;) .

inspired

This whole week, I’ve been so inspired by news stories I’ve read about elderly folks who’re just so with it, so gutsy, you know.

First, there was the story of Venus Ramey, Miss America 1944, now 82 years old, single-handedly taking on an intruder who came to steal from her.

She was just trying to protect her collection of old equipment which she’s trying to turn into showpieces for a museum she’s building.

Then there’s Nola Ochs aged 95 who’s just graduating from college and hopes to find a job as a storyteller on a cruise ship.

I’m so inspired by what she says about her age. She says, “I don’t dwell on my age. It might limit what I can do. As long as I have my mind and health, it’s just a number.”

I find this so totally profound!

stress-free long distance moving

I envy friends and family moving a new home, a better neighborhood. Sure, there’s the excitement of furnishing and decorating a new home, meeting new neighbors and making new friends.

But I don’t envy their stress of the actual physical move! First off, sourcing for the reliable Long Distance Moving Companies is not an easy task.

Frankly I’ve heard enough stories of shady movers, mishandled heirlooms and general sloppiness to make me shudder at the thought of moving.

Friends recommend Service Network which they say matches you up with licensed and insured movers that you can trust to do a good job.

They also have prenegotiated deals with movers to pass along discount of up to 65% to you. Now that’s a saving you can’t ignore. Maybe you should consider them in your next move.

our project runway (2)

The fashion shoots were great. Two weekends of fashion extravanganza is enough to whet my appetite for more.

I liked the way this whole event was organized. They had a fashion show every hour on the hour featuring apparel from different stores.

These models were wearing apparel from French Connection UK (or FCUK naughtily abbreviated). Lots of popular teen brands like Forever 21, Zero Hour and Body Glove.

Each show lasted between 15 to 25 minutes, nice and short. During the breaks, we’d go pig out, have a drink, do our bathroom runs and would still

be in time to catch the next show. Cool!

Brad’s schedule has been crazy since. After the SPCA dog show last Sunday, he’s been at the inter-school chess competition yesterday and today.

Obviously he’s not had any time for anything! Impatient mom that I am, I dug around his computer and managed to grab a few photos to post here.
