5 reasons I don’t read the news

I hardly read the news anymore and here’s why:

1. I’m superbusy. I just don’t have the luxury of sitting down with my feet up to thumb through the papers.

2. I stopped subscribing to my newspaper delivery years ago because no one was reading the papers at home.

3. Newspapers are filled with ads. I don’t believe in paying to read ads.

4. The papers are full of bad news. Tsunamis. War. People killing each other. I don’t need any more stress than I have now.

5. I’m holding out for a Good News Newspaper to come along. When that happens, I’ll start reading the papers again ;) .

  1. Isn’t it easier to read the news online now too? Although there is something attractive about print on fresh paper.

  2. Yes! Yes! Yes!

No newspaper on my doorstep for years. Ads…who needs them. Bad news…who can afford to absorb it. As for the good news…stop on by anytime you need a HappyUP!!!

I knew there were people out there that are feeling like I do about the news. Nice post!

  3. They don’t even really make good mulch anymore for the garden…too much glossy.

  4. For years, my husband and I have talked about starting some sort of “good news” publication. I totally agree–there is too much hype and sensationalism around killing and fear. I’m done with big time corporate news–it’s nothing but a downer. Of course I want to know what ’s going on in the world, but why can’t we get just the facts and a balanced report between inspiring stories and not-so-good news?

  5. We don’t get the paper either to save on trees! And for all your other reasons as well-most of the time they just end up being trash anyway… and like Deb said, ther is so much glossy now they don’t even like to recycle it!

  6. I agree with most of your points! I never realized that about paying to read the ads. I don’t buy the paper, and I especially won’t now.

  7. We still get the local newspaper . . .hubby reads it. I only read on-line. And I have certain sections that I read, but not others.

My scribblings are posted, so stop by!

  8. Good points, all. But what I found most interesting is the Google ad: the one for New York Times delivery.

  9. I can so relate to your reasons. Maybe we should make a blog newspaper with nothing but good news…lol

  10. I’m waiting for the good news newspaper myself.
