the stumbling cook
When I first left home to go to college, I had practically no cooking skills. All I knew was how to boil water and fry an egg. Well, okay, maybe plus a few other things but you get the idea.
My roommate was a little better off because she had a boyfriend who could cook, so she acquired some of her skills through osmosis
.
Which was good in a way because she became my mentor of sorts. My confidence grew as my cooking began tasting better each time I cooked. Between the two of us, we did manage to come up with a fairly good meal.
Pretty soon, we had our own signature chicken rice, Szechuan chicken and butterfly wontons to boast of. Those were our potluck contributions that got rave reviews. I guess that’s where my love for cooking began.
