too commercialized

Father’s Day, for some strange reason, isn’t celebrated with as much gusto as Mother’s Day. We barely noticed the day slip by. There were few signs or advertisements at the mall to promote this event. Hmm, I wonder why.

Maybe it’s just as well. Like I say, it’s all getting to be a tad too commercialized. Kids are under a lot of peer pressure to be “seen” celebrating these events.

“So what’d your Dad take you on Father’s Day?”

“So how many gifts did you receive on Valentine’s Day?”

It’s kinda getting to be too much - celebrating something just so you can tell the people at school just so you can fit in and be seen as the in-crowd!

Meals and gifts at these commercialized events don’t come cheap either, at prices kids obviously can’t afford. So it’s the parents who end up financing these fancy meals and gifts.

I’m happy just to get a hug from the kids on Mother’s Day. But in this day and age, anything that doesn’t come with a price tag isn’t good enough for some, I guess??
