who knows?

After our little stopover at the Sony shop yesterday, my nephew was telling me that his dad has just won a HDTV at a contest and that they’re planning to set up a Bose home theater before Christmas.

Can you believe some people’s luck? Fancy winning a HDTV! That’d never happen to me. I never win anything :???: .

Hey, wait, that’s not quite true. I won a free vacation to Bangkok once, and a couple of electrical appliances. Hmm, maybe it’s time I entered some contests too. Who knows? I could get lucky…

a good pen

I have a friend who says she can’t write me a letter unless she finds a ‘good pen‘. So what exactly is a good pen, oh good friend? I ask her.

To her, that’s a pen with ink that flows smoothly and that doesn’t blotch when she writes  . I find that very amusing because quite frankly, that’s a perfect excuse for not writing.

But I thought I’d give her the benefit of the doubt and wait till she really finds a pen good enough, by her definition, to inspire her to write to me.

But after waiting for years, it looks like her excuse is outdated. We’ve got email now but for her, the search for a good pen goes on. She really cracks me up  .

unsweet jam memories

I drove downtown this morning to drop off a friend at the bus station. Man, it’s been so long since I’ve been downtown at rush hour that I’d forgotten how crazy the traffic can get.

Since I started working from home, I’ve always had the flexibility to time my errands to avoid the rush hours. The experience was refreshing in a way. It brought back memories, albeit not so pleasant ones, of my daily commute to work in an office building that’s smack in the middle of the city.

I remember having a makeshift library on my front passenger seat so I could read while sitting in traffic. During the rainy season, I’d even had biscuits and cookies to munch on the way home. That’s how bad the jams get when it rains.

too early for Christmas?

Finally I got a chance to hit the mall last weekend. Nothing much going on there, for some strange reason. It didn’t even feel Christmasy with the lame decorations that they have up.

Maybe times are bad and things are expensive, so they’re trying to cut back on the decor as well. Gosh. This is terrible. To think this is the time of year I love best and it’s starting out to be so dry.

Where’s the glitz? The carols? The Christmas trees reaching for the sky? My kids tell me it’s too early, it’s only November. But I thought they’re starting earlier every year. Once I even predicted, we’d have Christmas in June.

don’t read, listen to these books

Being a work at home mom, I find it really hard to sit down with a book. I may start out with all the good intentions of finishing a book but I rarely get past the first few pages.

Audio books were created for people like me. If you’re a WAHM like me, there’s a great collection of audio books at AudioBooksWarehouse.net that you really should check out.

I’ve just downloaded their business ebook, 15 Creative Ideas to Increase Your Sales. I thought I’d share this with you since it’s free and you probably would find it useful.

I’m sure you’re just as eager as I am to make some Christmas money, so this is a book both you and I should read.

enough with the ads already

Have you noticed how we’re being bombarded with ads every which way we turn? I think it’s becoming worse because I don’t remember ever seeing so many ads before.

But now it’s like not one inch of space is being spared. I’ve always disliked carrying plastic bags and wearing T-shirts with ads on them. It’s bad enough that I’m seeing ads everywhere, I don’t want to be a walking ad myself.

Unfortunately we can’t deploy an offline popup blocker to prevent ads from popping up in front of my eyes like we do on our browser. If we could do that, I’d be the first to sign up  .

avoid buying a lemon

If it’s one thing I can really say about the salesman who sold me my minivan, it’s persistence. He’s always messaging me on my cell phone whenever there’s a new car out on the market.

I can’t go out and buy a new car just like that. I have to do my research first so that when I talk to the salesperson, I can appear to be smarter than I really am   and hopefully that’ll save me from being take on a ride. Literally.

I’ve learned an extra thing or two from the website of the Lemon Law Firm of Kimmel and Silverman where there’s a ton of information about how to avoid getting fleeced when buying a car.

Whichever state of the US that you’re in, there’s a lemon law applicable to you. So if you have a question or need assistance, you can go use LemonLaw.com’s service for free.

happily occupied

Well, we’re midway through the first week of the school holidays. The kids are keeping themselves well occupied, thank goodness, and haven’t bugged me to take them anywhere yet  .

All thanks to the almost 50 books that we bought from the book warehouse sale last weekend. We just have about a week left before my son finishes his exams and then we can start our mall crawling again. I can’t wait.
