brandishing power tools

I count myself lucky that I have a handyman around the house who assembles the stuff we buy and fixes everything halfway that are broken.

It sure beats having to call and pay someone to come in every time we need to assemble a cabinet or install a tv wall mount.

DH has a whole set of Bosch power tools that he’s only too proud to brandish when work needs to be done around the house.

talk of gloom and doom

My gym buddy was voicing his concerns about the state of the economy, the domino effect being caused, no doubt, by rising gas prices. He thinks it’s probably brought about by the greed of those who are looking for personal gain.

After inflation will come the recession, and that, according to him, is the biggest fear. The full impact of where the economy is headed will come in due time and people will be hard pressed for money left to invest in stocks, bullion or anything else.

Gosh, all this talk of gloom and doom sure spoilt my day. I’m really not sure what to think but I’d advise people to check out all their options at their banks before participating in financial investments, and Monex.com before investing in precious metals.

a little girl made my day

A little girl made my day today. As I dropped my daughter off at her tutor’s house, the neighbor’s toddler saw me and waved at me, a little shyly at first but when she saw me wave back, she toddled in my direction and continued waving even as I drove away.

I brought back memories of when my girls were that age and how they used to wave to me as I pulled out of my driveway for the commute to work every morning. I hated leaving them at home and I couldn’t wait to go home after work each day to be greeted with excitement at the door.

I miss those waves and hugs and kisses. Now that they are teens, there are few too few of these any more. Sigh!

not an ounce

Just when we thought we were done with wedding dinners for a while, we got invited to the wedding of the daughter of DH’s childhood friend. Yes, the wedding is tomorrow and we got verbally invited on Tuesday, that’s 4 days ago!

I hate to say this but it doesn’t sound like a very sincere invitation to me. But DH doesn’t have to know what I think. He’ll just say I have an over-active imagination. Duh!

But never mind that. I almost didn’t make it to the gym this morning. With all the sumptuous wedding dinners I’ve been attending lately, I either have to exercise like crazy or resort to generic Phentermine. I’m not kidding.

I jumped on the scale this morning and I was almost afraid to look. But guess what! I haven’t gained a single ounce, hahaha. No guilty looks from me. In fact, I can’t wait till tomorrow’s dinner!!

fix instead of buy

My friend dropped by yesterday still driving her old bomb of a Toyota. I’m surprised it’s still running after like 25 years since she inherited it from her father.

She was planning to buy a new car just before the gas price shakeup. Buying a new car is not an option for her any more.

Now she’ll probably just spend a bit of money to change her Toyota Radiator and get some minor problems fixed.

I guess that’s what most folks will be doing since they can’t afford a new car. But for those who’re looking for reliable parts service, be sure to have a look at what Radiators.com offers.

freaky storms

The sky is clouding over outside my window. It looks like it’s going to rain any minute now. I love it when it rains. But the rains aren’t the kind we’re used to any more.

These days, the rains come in a flash complete with freaky electric lightning and once its vengeance is spent, it’s gone just like that. I have to take my modem offline so it won’t get fried in the process.

achy-breaky

I’m feeling a little achy-breaky today because of my gym workouts yesterday. Guess I overdid it a little, huh?

No big deal. I only feel tired, as in achy-breaky tired, when I intensify my workouts every now and then, or do a different exercise.

It’s something I do when I get bored with my routine or when I’m plateauing out in terms of seeing any results. Just give me a day and I’m off again tomorrow.

reverting to home haircuts

Times are bad, so bad that I’m reading in the news about people giving up their kids because they can no longer afford to keep them. I used to be the family hairdresser up till a couple of years ago.

Now it looks like I may have to start cutting their hair myself in an effort to cut cost. Haircuts don’t come cheap though enterprising business people are offering cheaper cuts to cater to those who just need a simple cut, no styling.

I see many young people taking up salon jobs which, in the long run, could turn into a lucrative business for them if they start their own, or they could go to Beauty Jobs to search for one.

mistaken for Cruella de Ville

It rained today. Yes, but not hard enough to give my car a good wash. It’s rain whose bark is worse than it’s bite. Trouble with rain like this is that it’s quite useless as car wash and gives my car the spotted look instead.

Spots may look good on Dalmatians but they certainly aren’t very flattering on cars. So now I’m driving around hoping I don’t get mistaken for Cruella de Ville in a car draped with doggy spots  .

why exercise?

Funny why people always assume that if you exercise, your objective is to lose weight. Not always! People exercise for different reasons, mostly to lose weight, yes but not necessarily so. Right now, I’m at my ideal weight and BMI. The last thing I want to do is lose weight. I just want to get toned up, that’s all, thanks.
