brandishing power tools

I count myself lucky that I have a handyman around the house who assembles the stuff we buy and fixes everything halfway that are broken.

It sure beats having to call and pay someone to come in every time we need to assemble a cabinet or install a tv wall mount.

DH has a whole set of Bosch power tools that he’s only too proud to brandish when work needs to be done around the house.

a little girl made my day

A little girl made my day today. As I dropped my daughter off at her tutor’s house, the neighbor’s toddler saw me and waved at me, a little shyly at first but when she saw me wave back, she toddled in my direction and continued waving even as I drove away.

I brought back memories of when my girls were that age and how they used to wave to me as I pulled out of my driveway for the commute to work every morning. I hated leaving them at home and I couldn’t wait to go home after work each day to be greeted with excitement at the door.

I miss those waves and hugs and kisses. Now that they are teens, there are few too few of these any more. Sigh!

not an ounce

Just when we thought we were done with wedding dinners for a while, we got invited to the wedding of the daughter of DH’s childhood friend. Yes, the wedding is tomorrow and we got verbally invited on Tuesday, that’s 4 days ago!

I hate to say this but it doesn’t sound like a very sincere invitation to me. But DH doesn’t have to know what I think. He’ll just say I have an over-active imagination. Duh!

But never mind that. I almost didn’t make it to the gym this morning. With all the sumptuous wedding dinners I’ve been attending lately, I either have to exercise like crazy or resort to generic Phentermine. I’m not kidding.

I jumped on the scale this morning and I was almost afraid to look. But guess what! I haven’t gained a single ounce, hahaha. No guilty looks from me. In fact, I can’t wait till tomorrow’s dinner!!

freaky storms

The sky is clouding over outside my window. It looks like it’s going to rain any minute now. I love it when it rains. But the rains aren’t the kind we’re used to any more.

These days, the rains come in a flash complete with freaky electric lightning and once its vengeance is spent, it’s gone just like that. I have to take my modem offline so it won’t get fried in the process.

achy-breaky

I’m feeling a little achy-breaky today because of my gym workouts yesterday. Guess I overdid it a little, huh?

No big deal. I only feel tired, as in achy-breaky tired, when I intensify my workouts every now and then, or do a different exercise.

It’s something I do when I get bored with my routine or when I’m plateauing out in terms of seeing any results. Just give me a day and I’m off again tomorrow.

mistaken for Cruella de Ville

It rained today. Yes, but not hard enough to give my car a good wash. It’s rain whose bark is worse than it’s bite. Trouble with rain like this is that it’s quite useless as car wash and gives my car the spotted look instead.

Spots may look good on Dalmatians but they certainly aren’t very flattering on cars. So now I’m driving around hoping I don’t get mistaken for Cruella de Ville in a car draped with doggy spots  .

why exercise?

Funny why people always assume that if you exercise, your objective is to lose weight. Not always! People exercise for different reasons, mostly to lose weight, yes but not necessarily so. Right now, I’m at my ideal weight and BMI. The last thing I want to do is lose weight. I just want to get toned up, that’s all, thanks.

me on a motorcycle?

It’s really depressing to go to the gas station these days. I had to go this morning. When I pumped gas last week, I thought I’d gotten myself a full tank.

For a price of less than two digits, I seriously doubted that could possibly be right. But I was in a hurry that afternoon and drove away only to find out later that my tank was only three-quarters full.

A full tank now costs me more than a hundred bucks! Duh! It’s not funny. I really need to stay home more or get a motorcycle like many of the city folks are doing apparently.

Quite honestly, I can’t imagine myself riding a motorcycle even if I did know how! City driving is hazardous enough as it is. I’d like to save money but safety comes first.

neighbors, friends and moving

One of my neighbors will be moving away soon to a new house her daughter has bought. She’s not happy about it at all. You know how senior folks are. They get used to a place and they know the neighbors well, they just don’t want to move.

But her daughter is a control freak who doesn’t live with her but comes in and calls the shots anyways. So the poor old lady has no choice but to move to where her daughter wants her to go.

The new place is rather off the beaten path and it won’t be as convenient for her to get around. There won’t be any familiar faces. She’s alone at home most of the time while her other daughter is at work.

She’s the quiet type so it’ll probably take her a while to find new friends. I’m rather sad to see her move away. She’s been one of my nicer neighbors for many years.

planning for next week’s lunch

The weekend is almost here again finally. Just in time too, I’m running out of meal ideas. I’ve been cooking for weeks now and although the kids have loved every meal, I could really use a break.

Tomorrow I’m going grocery-shopping and that means I have to have meal ideas in my head for next week, so I’ll know what I need to buy. Right now, that’s putting quite a strain on my brain as I’m tired from a full day of playing mom’s taxi.

Ah, maybe tomorrow some bright ideas will hit me, huh?
