catching up on my beauty sleep

And so the blogathon is over for another year. It was fun but staying up for 24 hours straight really does do funny things to your head  . I was so sleep-deprived yesterday I just couldn’t get much done.

After a good night’s sleep last night, I’m at least awake today though it’s going to take me a while to catch up with my beauty sleep. Yawn!

trying to keep awake all night

Well, I’m busy blogging away for 24 hours straight at Day of Blogs 2008. As the night wears on, I’m planning to power down some of the lights around the house.

I’m going to be in my room but I’m going to keep my maxim lighting low and the music loud. I hope I don’t keep the kids up all night but I really need more than caffeine to keep me awake.

Good thing this is a Saturday night.

mom, the toiletries stockist

I’m just back from hoarding a whole lot of toiletries from the sale. With 3 teens in the house, it seems like my fulltime job to keep the bathroom always stocked with hair and body shampoos, facial cleansers, deodorants, hair gel and all sorts of creams and lotions.

Well, that’s what I do to ensure they don’t try to skip out of cleansing their faces and end up needing acne treatment. Frankly I’m busy enough as it is. So I’d rather nag and remind them than have to deal with the problems later.

travel at leisure

I’ve just received a postcard from my Scottish friend who is now vacationing back home.

Well, I’m pretty sure she isn’t just home home. Knowing her, she’s probably rented a rural gite in Brittany or one of those holiday apartments in Lorient.

Let’s put it this way, she’s one woman who really knows how to enjoy herself everywhere she goes. And she does travel at leisure. Of course that’s easy to do when money and time are non-issues and she doesn’t have any commitments to worry about.

So on a good day, she might just wake up and decide to visit Brest and rent a holiday home there and bring her folks and siblings along for a family vacation. What a life!

you wanna charge us now, do you?

Lately I’ve been having these achy-breaky shoulders, maybe from sitting in front of the computer too long, as DH would hasten to tell you. Ya, but what can I do?

It’s my job. I work online so where else would you find me? Even though I run around half the day playing chauffeur to my kids and hours at the gym, I still do spend a considerable amount of time at my computer.

Sometimes I get the kids to massage my shoulders. It really helps to relieve the ache and I feel much better afterwards. My son says his friends’ parents ask them to do the same. Okay, good, so I’m not the only one.

These kids say they should all have been signed up at massage therapy schools so they can do a more professional job and charge their parents for the service.

I was like, what? wait till we start charging you guys for driving you to school, cooking your meals, doing your dirty, smelly laundry, … that shut them up right there, muahaha.

family gatherings are fun till…

Well, there are no vacations in sight for me in the next, let’s see, 4 months *peering into crystal ball*. But my girl friend, who had lunch with me last Tuesday morning, left for an island holiday the very next day.

Her sister has rented a condo hotel for the entire family comprising all the siblings they haven’t seen in years. I guess it’s going to be one huge family gathering.

Actually I love these family gatherings. They’re so loud and noisy and just so much fun especially if there’ve been new additions to the family who’ve never met each other.

Well, many of my other friends would beg to disagree. They swear it’s all fun and games only till the gossip and family politics start. We can only wish that stuff doesn’t creep in eventually but there’s certainly no avoiding them.

come rain or shine or croc

DH, who is our resident golfer, has lots of interesting stories to tell about his games. The kids and I love having a good laugh at the expense of a few grown men chasing golf balls up and down hills and plains (or whatever they call them in golfing terms).

Thing is not all the stories are funny. There was this one time when DH hit the ball into a pond behind some bushes. So he went looking for it. It was only when he came back after finding the ball that he heard someone say that a crocodile had recently been sighted in the vicinity of the pond.

Yikes! Imagine coming face to face with a croc as you look up from from picking up your ball. Not a very nice thought at all! If it were me, I’d have quit right there and then. But we all know golfers don’t quit, rain or shine or crocodiles!

morning rain

What a happy morning! The gym where I work out has a beautiful view overlooking a swimming pool and the surrounding area.

Today I looked out and there was this light greyish curtain hanging over the pool as the rain fell lightly in sheets sending repeated ripples across the blue water.

The water was icy cold as I showered after my workout. It was like standing under a waterfall in the mountains. Haha, just listen to me, turning poetic all because of the morning rain.

dealing with the business jitters

I met up with an old friend for breakfast this morning. She has recently left her job and is thinking of starting her own business. She doesn’t have a lot of capital but was hoping to at least start off on a small scale.

She admits that running a business is something very new to her and that she’s a little nervous to make the jump. It’s entirely understandable. I’d be apprehensive too if I were in her shoes.

But like I told her, there’s always going to be a learning curve, and whatever she can’t handle, she should consider farming it out. The important stuff like Branding, she should probably just leave it to the experts, you know, people like the Brand Identity Guru who have been helping companies, big and small, to establish their brand.

Sure, she’ll have to budget it in as an expense but I think, in the long run, it’ll be money well spent if she can create an image that her market can associate her with. Well, I don’t know when she’ll be ready to kickstart her plans. But she’s spending a lot of time researching the market right now. I hope things work out well for her.

lost and found my keys

I went to buy an ice-cream cone for my son this morning, and in taking out my wallet, a little pouch containing my keys promptly fell out of my handbag.

I realized this after we’d left the store. I had no idea where I’d dropped it, so we doubled back to a couple of places we’d been to, namely the post office and a few other stores along the way.

Nothing turned up. I even asked the store staff if they’d seen my little pouch or if someone had turned it in. Nope. Maybe someone thought it contained cash and decided to keep it. Problem is there was no cash inside, only two keys.

We started walking back to my car. I was really upset that I’d been so careless. I’m usually much more careful than that. But things happen, I guess.

Then it suddenly occurred to me to go back to the store where I’d bought the ice-cream and see if they have a Lost and Found department. Yes, it’s a very big store so they could very well have one.

The lady at the front counter was really nice and when I told her my story, she nodded knowingly and asked me what color the pouch was and what it contained.

Then she reached behind her desk and brought out my pouch. Yes, my pouch with my keys still inside!!! I was so happy I couldn’t thank her enough. I’m so glad there are still honest people out there.
