rushing to school

Next week, my neighbor’s kid starts kindy. Man, how is it that kids are starting kindy earlier and earlier? The little guy is only 4, he’s still got a ways to go before being thrown into a cookie cutter classroom, I would think.

I suppose it’s good for the kids to learn something in a playful environment with other kids rather than sit at home and glue themselves to the cartoons on TV.

They’ll learn some song and dance. My kids’ favorite song when he was in kindy was Here we go round the Mulberry Bush, though I doubt any of the kids or even their teacher knows what Mulberry trees even look like.

Whatever the benefits, I would still prefer kids to stay home with their moms for as long as they can. There’s plenty of time for school later so why the rush?

slow

I’m really frustrated with the internet connection these days. I’ve been planning to get some work during the holidays but it looks like I’ve managed to get almost nothing done since the lines are so friggin’ slow. It takes me an hour to load a page, can you imagine that?

I can’t believe how much time I’ve wasted just trying to access pages. The other day, I visited with a friend at her house for an hour while waiting for my page to load. When I got back, it was still loading. Duh!

driving me nuts

Most of his son’s friends have had their driver’s licenses the minute they turned 17. Not my son. He hasn’t mentioned wanting to sign up at driving school (I’m glad) and I guess I haven’t pushed him either.

I worry about finding a teacher who’s not good enough to teach proper driving skills like the one I had when I was learning to drive. He just sat there next to me in the passenger seat and let me crash right into my neighbor’s car, then insisted it was my fault, not his, and my dad ended up paying for the damages. I could’ve been scarred for life. seriously!

Okay, so I’m  a worry wart and yes, I know it’s not like he’s going to truck driving school or anything, it’s just a regular old car, right? I guess, but you know how us mothers will find reason to worry over anything.

snail’s pace

I started out with all the good intentions of getting some background work done this holidays seeing that web traffic will probably be at its lowest since everyone’s out enjoying themselves with their families and loved ones.

Turns out the internet too is suffering from a hang over and is crawling ever so slowly that it’s impossible to get anything done at all. What a bummer! At first I thought it was the internet connection in my area.

But when I started calling my friends to check, it seems practically everyone is having this same problem. A friend who was trying to check for life insurance quotes online wasted a whole night without nothing to show for it.

So what do you think it’s wrong? I’ve written to my webhost and they’ve gotten right onto the problem. But it’s been hours and still we’re crawling at snail’s pace here  .

argh, my aching shoulders

Working an online business requires me to be at my PC for hours at a time. That plus the fact that the internet can be pretty addictive on its own. So besides working on my business, I’m often surfing for stuff or getting stuck on emails and social networking.

It’s no wonder my back and shoulders ache and I sometimes need to get my kids to massage my shoulders before I go to bed  ! Just days ago, a friend gave me a shoulder pain pump after she heard me complaining.

Consider it my Christmas present to you, she said. A really nice touch, I love practical gifts that I can actually use instead of stashing in a corner to collect dust.

So let’s see how I go with my new mechanical massager. At least my kids will be spared having to play reluctant masseuse, heh.

family event of the year

We’ve just had a huge family gathering here for a wedding of someone from my in-law’s side. It’s not very often that everyone gets together on such a big scale and from all over the world. It was quite something.

We’ve spent the weekend eating, drinking, taking photos and catching up. Many of the relatives are people we don’t see very often, or have never even met at all due to geographical distance.

After this big event, many members will be heading out their year-end holidays to different parts of the world too. I heard some of them will be going to China, others to Australia and some to New York.

There’s lots of travel advice going around about where to visit and what to do. Those who’ve been to New York recommend the New York Bus Charters as a great way to get around for groups of any size.

It is possible to plan the bus rentals around the places of interest that you would like to visit. They’re very reliable and you don’t have to worry about a thing, just sit back and enjoy the view.

Sounds like the perfect thing for a stress-free vacation. I wish I were going to New York too  .

blue guitar

My daughters are getting so bored with shopping that they’ve started scouting around for a guitar. Yes, they’re learning to play and can’t wait to check out all the ones they see online belonging their favorite rock stars.

Yikes, it looks like we have to pop into every music shop at every mall we go to. But I guess no harm done since they know I won’t be investing in another guitar for now.

Check out this unusual blue guitar we were peering at through a dirty shop window

same tree, different year

Are my eyes deceiving me or are shopping malls recycling their Christmas trees from last year? Ack, maybe times are bad and that’s one way to save on something that you only put up once a year, eh?

Oh wait!

I thought I saw this tree last year. Or maybe I didn’t. Or maybe after a while, all Christmas trees are starting to look alike? Oh, no-ooo!

pumpkin me

This past holiday I’ve been giving the kids a bit of history lesson, taking them to restaurants that I used to frequent years ago. Surprising many of these restaurants are still around and thriving. And it sure brings back lots of good memories to revisit them.

The kids and I have so far visited 3 restaurants that I used to frequent.A couple of them still serve the same great quality of food they have for the past 10 years. The others however have not done so well in keeping up the quality of their food. So it’s unlikely we will be going back to those ones.

At any rate, we really can’t afford to be frequenting these restaurants otherwise we will need diet pills for sure. As it is, I think I’ve already gained 5 pounds from all that irresistably good food. By the time Christmas comes, I’ll have turned into a pumpkin  .
