rain spell

It’s raining outside. Which means it’s gonna be a cool night, great for sleeping right into Sunday morning. I love it when it rains and it certainly looks like the rains are back after the long hot spell we had just a few weeks ago.

The only inconvenience is when it rains heavily on school days. Then it becomes a real hassle trying to get through traffic and to the kids trying to get in/out of school. But for now, I’m happy it’s raining continuously…

snap and crack

Last week, on the way home from running an errand in town, we heard a snapping sound as we were traveling down the highway. I didn’t think much of it at the time, guessing that maybe I’d run over a bit of litter or something.

Later when I glanced at my dashboard and saw the alerts lighted up, it dawned on me that maybe the sound had come from my car! I drove straight home and called the mechanic.

Turned out my radiator tank had cracked and leaked out all the fluid, and one of the belts had snapped. I can’t believe how that could’ve happened since I service my car religiously. The thought of my car going out of control and us ending up in cervical collars really gave me the shivers!

slacker, not by choice

I’ve been quite the slacker these days. Not by choice, of course! Y’all know what a hyper-busy bee I am and can’t sit still for long.

But lately someone at our ISP decided that I should be taking a break from working my usual long hours at the computer.

My internet connection has been so incredibly slow it takes me hours to publish a single post. So I decided to heck with it, I’ll just kick back and stay offline!

the early bird

Are you guys doing anything for Valentine’s Day or just waiting for some guy to appear at your door with a bouquet of roses? If I had to choose between roses and a romantic candlelight dinner, I’ll have both please  .

If you’re still undecided about dinner tonight, you might check out the Village Voice, a newsweekly of entertainment options for the New York area.

You can go down the list of New York Restaurants at your leisure till you find one that fits your taste and budget, then quickly call to make your reservation.

I’m betting most of the restaurants will be booked to the max tonight, so it’s a case of the early bird catches the worm on this one.

one down, more to go

Now that we’ve got one more birthday party out of the way, I guess we can hang up our shopping shoes for a bit. Just for a little while though, that’s what my daughter tells me, ‘cos there’s a bunch more of her friends’ birthdays coming up.

Duh! Which means I’ll soon have to get busy looking out for another sale at the gift shops. That’s what we did the last time, go in and buy a whole lot of gifts because I don’t have time to drive to the store and buy them one at a time.

surprise birthday party for a friend

It was a busy day yesterday. I baked muffins and made jelly for my daughter to bring to her friend’s potluck birthday party. Well, surprise party, should I say?

The other girls were planning it. First thing this morning, they were off to set up the party. They were so excited, sneaking around and calling back and forth  . They’ve invited the birthday girl to tennis and then they’re going to spring the surprise on her. Should be lots of fun!

sitting out the crisis

I was watching CNN at the gym again this morning. Looks like Toyota is closing all of their assembly plants in Toyota City except for one. Lots of people are going to lose their jobs as there’s news of lay-offs every single day.

The lucky ones who have enough savings stashed away will pull through this crisis, I guess. Some folks I know are planning to use their time to pursue an online university course to upgrade themselves while they sit out the recession. I guess it’s a pretty productive way to go if you can afford it. It’s better than sitting at home and twiddling your thumbs.

just being polite

I jumped on the scale at the gym this morning and whoa! looks like I’ve put on a li’l bit of weight. Not least from all this Chinese New Year pigging out, I can assure you.

It’s easy to overeat when you’re catching up with family and friends you haven’t seen in a while. While I was sitting there listening to stories of who has recently bought a new house or a new Jaeger Master and who is planning to get married this year and who has problems conceiving, I tell you, it’s just so hard not to keep stuffing food into my mouth.

Well, firstly it’s because I don’t want to be rude and interrupt so by continuing to eat, I will appear to be listening attentively. Also I’m a person of relatively few words which makes me a good listener and a good eater. ’nuff said!
