the best way to cool off

We found a great way to cool off last weekend. Seeing there’s been no let-up in the hot sunny temperatures, we’re trying to head to the malls whenever we can. Like I mentioned before, we didn’t air-condition our entire house so unless we want to hide in our bedrooms all day, we’re off to the mall.

Guess what, last weekend the annual fashion shows were on. What a treat! We got to sit in air-conditioned comfort with nary a drop of perspiration dripping down our brows and first-class seating on wooden benches to watch anorexic model after anorexi model strut down the runway  . Now this IS the life!

super hot days

We’ve having some super hot weather right now. Well, to be fair, we did have some gusty winds and rain last night, not that that helped at all. During the day, as I rush around on my endless taxi runs, I’m guzzling water like I’m trudging through the desert or something.

The kids are having the sniffles and coughs, and we’re down to the last two drops of Breacol that I bought barely two days ago. My car is pretty much coated in dust. There’s no point washing it because the minute I turn around, the layer dust is back. I’m going to do the rain dance tomorrow. My car needs a bath BAD and as for the rest of us, we just wanna be cool, git?

Fast and Furious over the weekend

The kids and I watched “Fast and Furious” over the weekend and it was great. We haven’t been able to stop talking about it since. I’m not sure how I missed watching the second and third parts of this movie but this one was pretty exciting, very exciting in fact.

Dom Torreto (Vin Diesel) teams up with Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) again after he loses his girlfriend and decides to go after the baddies who did it. That sums it up in one sentence and doesn’t sound like much. You’ve got to watch the movie at the cinema to fully appreciate the sound effects and the car chases on the big screen  .

crossroads

When teens arrive at the crossroads of their lives when they have to decide what course they want to pursue in college, that’s often a tough time for parents too. I mean, we’re the ones who have to be there to answer their questions and to guide them to a decision which we hope will be the right one. Many parents actually decide for their kids on the basis of what career brings the best monetary rewards.

But I think it’s best to leave it to the kids. Whether it’s roughing it out at law school or toying with the idea of cosmetology schools, the important thing is for the child to find something that they’re interested in. No point for them to choose a career that they loathe just because their parents think that’s the best thing for them. Just my two cents.

kitchen slave

Our weekends used to be all about shopping and eating out. But lately with the economy in the state that it’s in, we’re cutting back just like a lot of you folks. For our family of five, it costs quite a bit to eat out especially since my three teens all have ravenous appetites at this stage. So if we don’t eat out, it means we’re eating in. Eating in means someone’s gotta do the cooking, and if you guessed that someone is me, you’re spot on! Oh no, here comes another weekend, time to play kitchen slave!

going to the city

The kids and I have a good number of things planned for this weekend. I know it’s Easter for many of you but not for us. For us, it so happens there’s a computer fair we want to go to just for a looksee. It’s kinda obligatory, we go whenever it’s in town to see if we can pick up any bargains. We don’t like paying regular prices on our computer stuff especially since they get outdated so quickly. So yeah, we’re going to the city… yay!

I only wish

The current economic situation is a bit of a drag, isn’t it? Unless we’re filthy rich with money coming out our ears, we’re basically not going to be able to afford that All inclusive family vacation Mexico, are we?

The Riviera Maya beckons with its fun-filled, sun-bathed activities for the entire family. As for us mere minions, we’re staying home in the hopes of saving a few bucks. Well, okay, maybe we’ll be making some short trips out of town for a quick break.

But frankly, that’s all we can afford right now. With one kid in college and the other two in school, we’d be wise to conserve our money and not overspend till the economic climate improves.

haven’t lost a single pound

I’ve gone back to the gym to work out… religiously. No more excuses. Yeah, I know I could come up with an excuse, just like that, to make myself feel better but I won’t.

Truth is I enjoy working out. It gives me a rush afterwards that sometimes lasts for days. I haven’t lost a single pound in all the years that I’ve been working out.

Is that good or bad? Depends on whether I’m trying to lose weight or not. And I’m not  !

gray day

It’s a gray day out. I love gray days for a very simple reason, I don’t like the sun much. So if it’s not sunny, it has to be gray, right?

The only problem with gray is it usually brings the rain. Drizzles are okay but once I hear thunder and lightning starts flashing across the sky, it means I have to switch off my modem and wait for the storm to whittle down.

be prepared

Being a mom, I’ve learnt to always be prepared. Or try to anyhow. I know we can’t be prepared all the time for all the spills and falls. But it’s good practice to keep some basic medication and medical equipment like thermometers around the house, just in case.

I mean they’re so easily available and you can even order them online at places like Allegro Medical, so why not? In fact, even when we travel or go away on holiday, I always pack a small box of essential medical stuff to bring along.

Sure you can always buy them wherever you’re vacationing at, unless you’re going to the Arctic or something  but what if it’s late and the stores are closed?
