I bet it’s for fun

Recently a friend of ours was persuaded by one of his friends to recommend him to an online sports betting site. The two guys and their friends have really been into the recent World Cup and I guess the momentum was just keeping them going.

Now they want to try their hand at other kinds of sports besides soccer. Like with anything else, it’s always best to do your homework so they’re off to read up more about baseball betting and others.

Our friend is, of course, into this for the sheer fun of it. He doesn’t bet very big and is happy with whatever he wins. His friend too gather over a beer and most times, drink as they discuss the odds. It’s all for fun on the weekends.

laughing from start to finish

Looks like a whole string of movie nights this week. That’s what we’ve been up to. Last night, we watched “The Proposal” which stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in a hilarious romantic comedy about a dragon lady of a boss (Sandra Bullock) who, in a moment of desperation, makes a deal to marry her assistant (Ryan Reynolds). This movie totally knocked our socks off. We practically laughed from start to finish on that one.

have you watched Shrek yet?

The kids and I watched the latest sequel last night and I have to say it’s a big improvement over the previous one where I left the cinema with a very vague impression of what was going on in the movie. At least with this one, there’s food for thought and it deals with a very relevant topic in our rushed lives. I won’t spoil the fun for you but if you have kids, you should watch it with them  .

Iron Man, here we come!

Woohoo, another weekend coming up. It’s going to be a busy one for us. Guess what? I just got tickets to see the latest “Iron Man” movie and that has the kids jumping up and down. We’re such a bunch of movie freaks we simply love going to the cinema. It’s like a picnic for us, lots of junk food and just the excitement of watching a movie at the cinema instead of at home. Hope you have a great weekend.

games Gramps plays

My teens inadvertently found out that their grandfather likes to bet on sports. Looks like Gramps has gone high tech when we weren’t looking. I’m not sure who taught him to use the computer, certainly not my teens since we only see him once or twice a year.

Is it football season now? I’m guessing it must be since the kids noticed Gramps is spending his afternoons on football betting. If he makes money, he’ll probably take the kids out for a treat, maybe afternoon tea.

But if he loses, well, luckily he only treats it as a game and he won’t get too upset about it. I think that’s what’s good about Gramps. He knows his limit and he only plays for fun. That’s why I don’t mind letting the kids watch him.

Unitard to the rescue!

The weekend is here and I sure could use a break. And just in time too because I stumbled upon this vacation rental commercial which really cracked me up. Yes, I needed a laugh that bad.

This guy by the name of Unitard goes around saving families from getting themselves trapped in a vacation rental that’s less than what it should be – bad service, crammed rooms, no scenic views, you get the picture.

And he tells them they don’t have to settle for less than a perfect vacation if they go over to Vacation Rental.org and pick out an entire house by the beach or on a hilltop and have themselves a vacation of a lifetime for the whole family. Really cute video that you can view at http://www.vacationrental.org/info/blogs/funny-vacation-rental-commercial—unitard.html. Enjoy!

talking plans for the school break

Although school has reopened and it’s probably way too early to be even thinking about holiday plans, my friend’s kids are already starting to talk about what they want to do on their next break.

Now the poor mommy has no choice but to start surfing the net for Spiderman Tickets and The Addams Family tickets. The kids don’t know it because she wants to surprise them after she gets the tickets. Oh, how sweet!

Since they’re on a budget, she also has to start putting some money aside so she and her husband can also get some Houston Rodeo Tickets for themselves. I think they deserve a night out. They’re always so busy with the family it seems they hardly get any time together.

sneaky mom

With the holiday season just around the corner, pretty soon the kids will be out of school and complaining about being bored at home. Luckily they’re pretty good about entertaining themselves by watching TV.

That’s what keeps them occupied when I’m out shopping or when they get bored talking on the phone or listening to their MPs. My girl friend has signed up for Direct TV and I’m thinking of doing the same. I’m going to pop over to her place to check out the Direct TV packages she’s subscribed for before I decide which ones I want.

But yes, my kids are doing pretty good in school and I think they deserve to enjoy some great Directtv. Can’t believe I just said that  . It’s also a great way to keep them out of my hair while I’m busy with holiday preparations.
