came to visit me, did you?

My cousin came to visit this morning but it definitely wasn’t to see me. The guy doesn’t usually show up unless he wants something from me .

He’s the notorious diehard football fanatic in the family and he wanted to borrow my computer to watch Carlsberg web-tv. His laptop has gone to the repair shop so he’s at loose ends.

Carlsberg has apparently launched its own web tv for football fans to keep up with the football action in the world. If you want to join them, just click yourself over to www.partofthegame.tv. Enjoy!

add another white elephant to the heap

Last weekend, DH sneaked out and came home with a Playstation 3. Now I’m not quite sure who he bought it for but one thing I know for sure is that my teens are not into these games.

They’ve got their own favorite online games which they much prefer. So I’m guessing he bought it for himself. Yep, I’m pretty sure of it. He even canceled his golf game to stay home and play  . Funny guy!

What may not be so funny is that we’ve already got a heap of white elephants in the store room. He just likes to buy these big boys’ toys but he also abandons them pretty quickly.

I’ve been threatening to call in the moving services guys to cart them away. On second thought, I might just decide to auction them off on ebay or something and make a little spare change while I’m at it.

watched two free movies

Can you believe I actually dragged myself to watch two kiddy movies last weekend? We got free tickets to Wall-E and Star Wars, the Clone Wars.

We couldn’t give the tickets away and we didn’t want them to go to waste. So we went. Of course, the hot dogs and popcorn are always a good reason to go to any movie, free or otherwise.

boy talk

It’s strange how boys behave differently with their moms than with their dads. We were at a friend’s for one of his boy’s birthday party and I couldn’t help noticing how his conversations with his 3 sons seem to center almost entirely on guys’ stuff.

First off, he’d bought his birthday boy a dye paintball set and apparel and they were excitedly planning when they were going to test out their new paintball gear.

I have to confess I haven’t got a clue how paintball is played but I didn’t want to interrupt their animated conversation to ask. Well, whatever it is, it had the boys’ mom rolling her eyes to the ceiling at the mere sound of it. I notice that with her, the boys seem to speak in softer tones.

not getting to watch the Olympics sucks

We’re missing the best of the Olympics because our TV is down. Yesterday we noticed they were screening the Oympics at the mall so we joined the small group of people who had stopped to watch.

But we gave up after a while because it’s quite tiring tilting our heads up to look at the screen. My poor kids! They were so wanting to watch but we have to wait till our TV gets back from the repairman’s.

switching to movies at home

I can’t believe I watched like 3 movies in the past week, one of them being Iron Man which I really enjoyed. I’m online so much that I don’t have time for movies any more, it seems, hehe! In fact, it’s my kids who keep me updated about movies these days.

Well, we probably won’t be going to movies at the cinemas too often from now on. It’s getting too expensive - tickets for the four of us, popcorn and lunch or dinner out afterwards. It’s all starting to make a dent in my pocket.

So we’re going to start watching movies at home instead. It won’t be the same, of course. We love going to the movies and we’ll definitely miss this whole excitement of booking tickets, getting dressed and driving out.

But we could definitely save quite a bit by watching movies at home. I’ll just have to start popping popcorn in my microwave and draw the drapes to create that movie theater effect  . Let’s see how we go with that!

great being a kid

The kids were up late last night pitting their computer game prowess against each other. I would usually insist they get to bed but this being the weekend, I let them stay up till after midnight.

Well, I hope they did get to bed by 2am as promised because I was sleeping like a log by then and didn’t even hear them sneaking down to the kitchen for some milk.

It’s fun to be a kid, isn’t it? Life is just giggles and games. No worries about anything.

quite da Iron Man

I honestly had no idea there was a movie called Iron Man until my kids started on and on about wanting to go watch it. So we did… after trying to secure tickets for the umpteenth time. Luckily I don’t have to worry about ticket bookings any more. The kids take care of that now.

To be honest, I didn’t know what to think. I almost expected that it’ll all be a waste of time. I mean, come on, something from out of the Marvel comics!!

It wasn’t until Tony Stark started hammering together that first Iron Man suit that I began to actually have an idea as to what Iron Man would look like. And as each suit of armor turned out shinier and more colorful than the last, I really got sucked into the movie.

Okay, so I enjoyed Iron Man after all. Robert Downey Jr. (the name sounds familiar but I can remember which movie I’ve seen him in) is quite da man! And I walked away thinking Gwyneth Paltrow, whom I never really liked until I saw her on Shakespeare In Love, is actually pretty gorgeous.

it’s fun being my pants

240x180When I was out on my shopping marathon yesterday with my cousins and our kids, I was wearing my Dockers pants.

I needed pants that would survive the day, and my hands just automatically reached for my Dockers.

With half a dozen kids in our shopping contingent, we have to be keeping an eye on each other’s kids. Gosh, you cannot imagine what it’s like when we descend on a store!

The moms would be picking out clothes to try while the kids would be running around the store, getting impatient. While one of us is in the fitting room, the other moms would be chasing the kids round the store.

It’s like a scene from a comedy! The looks on the store staffs’ faces, I just know they can’t wait for us to leave  . If my pants could talk, they’d be laughing at the fun I put them through, or maybe screaming their heads off  !

I’m thinking of taking part in the Dockers contest that’s going on right now to talk about my favorite pair of pants.

Do you have a funny story to tell too? If you do, share your video story and win some great prizes by entering the Dockers contest.

much ado about movies

We wanted to go to the movies today. The kids have been raving about Iron Man though I’m not that interested, to be honest. But seeing that it’s the weekend, I gave in and told them to go ahead and book the tickets online.

DH happened to be near the cinema so we asked him to collect the tickets on his way home. But apparently the booking information hadn’t been updated and our reservation number was not in the system yet. Huh? Er, isn’t online supposed to be …? Er, never mind, that’s another story.

The fact remains that if we had taken advantage of the discount home theater seating we saw a while ago, we’d be enjoying any movie we want in the comfort of our own home. Duh!
