redone daily

My neighbor’s daughter-in-law is probably the vainest woman in our entire neighborhood. She works as some sort of nurse at a plastic surgeon’s office. It could be Denver Plastic Surgery for all I know.

I mean, I hardly talk to the woman since she usually pretends not to see me. And even if I saw her, I probably won’t recognize her at the rate she changes her face.

I don’t mean that in a bad way, it’s just that she really maxes out on the fact that her boss is a plastic surgeon and is always having one part of her face or the other ‘beautified’.

First, it was her nose. She made it higher. Then it was her eyes. She made them bigger. Then it was her boobs! OMG, she had them enlarged to surprise her husband who was working overseas at the time  .

So really, can you blame me if I say I can’t recognize her if she’s having some part of her body redone on a day to day basis  ?

perfect vision may not be so far away

When my friend told me she’d had lasik done to correct her eyesight, my first reaction was wow, no glasses, no contact lenses, that must be heaven.

She’s been raving about it ever since. I’d love to have it done but have to admit I’ve been procrastinating on getting it done because I’m too chicken. Too many questions in my mind about whether it’s safe or not, you know, the usual worries.

I was really surprised though when I came across someĀ LASIK information about NASA and the US Military encouraging their personnel to undergo corrective lasik. That sure says something about the safety and effectiveness of the procedure.

Unlike the old procedure, Modern Lasik, or what’s commonly known as iLasik, uses two lasers instead of one. This new LASIK technology basically removes the need for a previously handheld blade to create the corneal flap. In other words, there’s less margin for error because there is less human intervention.

The military personnel who’ve had the iLasik done are enjoying 20/20 vision. These are the people who really need good eye vision because of the nature of the work.

Hmm, maybe my worries are unfounded, maybe I should reconsider getting my eyesight corrected.

school or beauty contest?

I tell you teens these days are so worried about their looks. Every day when my girls come back from school, I get an earful of stories about what their friends at school get up to.

Of course, they start prettying themselves up much earlier than we ever did. One pimple on their face and it’s like the sky just came crashing down, and they start applying all sorts of creams and lotions and popping acne pills.

I really wonder if they’re going to school to get an education or is school some sort of a beauty contest to them? Luckily for me, my girls are very down-to-earth and I still have to nag them about taking care of their skin, etc.

a-choo…

I have a nose that seems to have a mind of its own. People who know me know my sneezes as well because they can happen at any time causing them to ask if I’m having a cold.

Actually it’s not a cold. My nose is so sensitive to dust and temperature changes that it just takes off on its own and can be very hard to stop. My friends advised me to check with a doctor to ensure it doesn’t turn into Acute Sinusitis.

What’s puzzling though is that when I was living in the US, my nose was very well-behaved and I hardly sneezed at all unless I was having a real cold.

According to the doctor, the quality of air is better over there. Here in the city, there’s a lot of airborne dust and particles that seem to add to my sinus problem.

This announcement was paid for by Epocrates.

hassle-free travel

I was chatting with a girl friend on the phone last night. Well, it looks like she’s leaving on another vacation. Yes, I guess the weakening economy never stopped anyone from traveling to far-flung destinations for a good time. Sigh!

This was someone who used to complain when her husband whisked her away on a holiday. She hated long haul flights because of having to fuss with her contact lenses and making sure her eyes were well hydrated in flight.

Well, not since she got herĀ Lasik done and her eyesight corrected, she hasn’t complained about flying any more. Of course she’s been trying to convince me to go for it ever since. I’m just too chicken  .

back to the grind

Woo-hoo, I finally managed to make it to the gym this morning. I’ve slacked for a whole week, not deliberately. In fact, I’ve been itching to go but being a mom, family comes first and some of my own schedules sometimes have to take a backseat.

But guess what? Looks like everyone decided to hit the gym all at once. It was so crowded it seriously broke up my momentum waiting for the equipment I want to use. It’s not a very big gym, so…

mom, the toiletries stockist

I’m just back from hoarding a whole lot of toiletries from the sale. With 3 teens in the house, it seems like my fulltime job to keep the bathroom always stocked with hair and body shampoos, facial cleansers, deodorants, hair gel and all sorts of creams and lotions.

Well, that’s what I do to ensure they don’t try to skip out of cleansing their faces and end up needing acne treatment. Frankly I’m busy enough as it is. So I’d rather nag and remind them than have to deal with the problems later.

you wanna charge us now, do you?

Lately I’ve been having these achy-breaky shoulders, maybe from sitting in front of the computer too long, as DH would hasten to tell you. Ya, but what can I do?

It’s my job. I work online so where else would you find me? Even though I run around half the day playing chauffeur to my kids and hours at the gym, I still do spend a considerable amount of time at my computer.

Sometimes I get the kids to massage my shoulders. It really helps to relieve the ache and I feel much better afterwards. My son says his friends’ parents ask them to do the same. Okay, good, so I’m not the only one.

These kids say they should all have been signed up at massage therapy schools so they can do a more professional job and charge their parents for the service.

I was like, what? wait till we start charging you guys for driving you to school, cooking your meals, doing your dirty, smelly laundry, … that shut them up right there, muahaha.

achy-breaky

I’m feeling a little achy-breaky today because of my gym workouts yesterday. Guess I overdid it a little, huh?

No big deal. I only feel tired, as in achy-breaky tired, when I intensify my workouts every now and then, or do a different exercise.

It’s something I do when I get bored with my routine or when I’m plateauing out in terms of seeing any results. Just give me a day and I’m off again tomorrow.

reverting to home haircuts

Times are bad, so bad that I’m reading in the news about people giving up their kids because they can no longer afford to keep them. I used to be the family hairdresser up till a couple of years ago.

Now it looks like I may have to start cutting their hair myself in an effort to cut cost. Haircuts don’t come cheap though enterprising business people are offering cheaper cuts to cater to those who just need a simple cut, no styling.

I see many young people taking up salon jobs which, in the long run, could turn into a lucrative business for them if they start their own, or they could go to Beauty Jobs to search for one.
