help for the handicapped

I was just saying the other day how great it is that there are so many parking spots for the disabled outside the grocery store where I shop. Indeed it is great that the disabled are able to have a much greater degree of independence with the help of non-profit organizations like NMEDA.

If you are or know of someone who needs assistance with vehicles for handicapped people, you should consult with an NMEDA dealer in your local area to get an in-person evaluation. The dealer doesn’t actually sell anything but they will be happy to advise you on what’s best for your particular set of needs and how to avoid being taken advantage of by some internet deals.

NMEDA also has the only nationally recognized Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry based on the principle that in order to satisfy customers consistently, companies must have a systematic and documented approach to quality.

I can understand how difficult life can be, not only to the disabled person, but also to their family and loved ones who are predominantly the caregivers. So can you imagine what a relief it is to be able to have access to quality assistance you can trust from an association like NMEDA?

compare for the better

I’m visiting with a girl friend right now. She lives alone and loves it. There was a time she was constantly worried though about her house when she’s at work since there’s nobody there.

She was especially paranoid about leaving her home unattended with all of her precious belongings in whenever she went on vacations. She’s a regular worry wart, that’s what I always tell her, though she won’t readily admit to it.

When she told her friend about it, he suggested she compare several different household insurance types which, if you ask me, is a very good idea. I mean, why worry yourself to immobility when you can actually insure your stuff, right?

Anyhow, I’m glad she went with the idea and found the household insurance that suited her and her budget. And now, at least, she knows she’s covered in the unlikely event that, well, I probably should even finish this sentence because if she’s reading this, she’s going to be knocking on wood all day!!

Thing is we, her BFFs, now feel less apprehensive about inviting her on vacations with us. Before she used to dally so long on her decision, we practically had to give up on her  .

dangerous driving

Is it just me or is driving becoming more of a health hazard these days? I went out with a girl friend for breakfast this morning and we had 2 cars cutting dangerously in front of us without warning. One of these days, I swear I’ll have to hire a chauffeur if I want to stay sane!

My girl friend is a very slow and careful driver so I guess drivers are trying to bully her into giving way! I am totally unimpressed, is all I can say.

snail mail lover

Almost all of the homes in my neighborhood seem to have wall mounted mailboxes. I never noticed until I decided our wall mount mailbox needed a coat of new paint. I can be such a dum-dum about noticing things sometimes  .

At any rate, I looked around to see what kind of house mailboxes my neighbors have and I think wall mount mailboxes are definitely more lasting than the free-standing ones since we’re so prone to getting freaky electric storms! If the winds and rain can topple a tree, you can just imagine what might happen to that skinny pole.

Speaking of mailboxes,  I have a friend who simply loves walking out to her mailbox to find it crammed full of snail mail. If I’d known that earlier, I would’ve sent her those regular old cards instead of e-cards.

on brightening up a bland window

DH came back from a trip to the hills last Friday with 5 pots of flowers. The last time he brought back several potted plants, we left them in the garden and they got pretty beat up in these freaky electric storms we’ve been having. The wind was so strong it brought all the flower pots crashing to the ground. I managed to salvage some of it but they never quite took off.

This time, I’m going to transplant the new plants into window flower boxes and attempt to grow them indoors. The other good thing is the dog won’t be able to chew up the buds if I keep them in window boxes. Honestly I didn’t know dogs fancied eating flowers but ours apparently does  !

You know what, it’s not such a bad idea to have flowers in a window box to brighten up our bland kitchen. I’ve not tried this before and I certainly hope there will be enough sunlight for the flowers to bloom. I can’t wait!

indoors

It’s terribly hot weather and we’re having a staycation. Not doing anything wildly exciting because it’s just too hot outside. If  you know me, you know I’m not a big fan of sunny days, so we’re staying indoors more than anything else. What are you up to?

did anyone say sunny?

Well, sunny is an understatement. It’s blazing hot here. Every day. We’re hitting the mid-90’s and quite frankly, we’re slobbing on the sunblock like we hit an oil field in our backyard. I have to keep reminding the kids to drink up and keep their hats on. I don’t mind the heat and humidity so long as the kids don’t start coming down with fever and flu and missing school because of it. How’s the weather where you’re at?

Not in My Yard blog focuses on total yard protection through trapping and repelling animals humanely but effectively with Havahart products. Do you have a helpful or interesting experience protecting your yard and garden from the onslaught of hungry raiders? Submit it to Not in My Yard blog and let others know what worked. Top contributors are listed on the blog, so the more guest posts you submit, the better chance you have of seeing your name in lights. Chances are, there will be other Not in My Yard blog regulars with pest control problems similar to yours — and even other gardeners from your region. You can choose to show only their posts so you don’t miss the tips most relevant to your situation.

If posting on blogs isn’t your thing, Not in My Yard blog is the perfect place to learn about total yard protection. Expert and guest bloggers discuss controlling wild (and not-so-wild) animals of all types, including chipmunks, deer, dogs, feral cats, groundhogs, rabbits, raccoons, rodents, skunks and squirrels. You’ll learn about live trapping and using non-toxic, organic repellents to keep wildlife from viewing your yard as a trendy neighborhood eatery. You’ll enjoy interesting — and frequently humorous — stories about wildlife in other gardeners’ yards. And perhaps most importantly, you’ll see you’re not alone in your fight to protect your landscaping or garden.

Not in My Yard blog also features the live Havahart Twitter feed with helpful tips and promotional discounts on total yard protection products. You can subscribe to the RSS feed or submit your e-mail address for live updates whenever a new post is added to the blog.

“We’re excited to launch Not in My Yard blog,” said Havahart marketing associate Theresa Flavin. “This is the blog for everyone who has ever watched their tulips become rabbit food, lost their hostas to deer or wished the neighborhood skunks would find a different path to walk every night.
