why exercise?

Funny why people always assume that if you exercise, your objective is to lose weight. Not always! People exercise for different reasons, mostly to lose weight, yes but not necessarily so. Right now, I’m at my ideal weight and BMI. The last thing I want to do is lose weight. I just want to get toned up, that’s all, thanks.

noddy on the road

I haven’t been sleeping well lately. I read that sleep loss has a cumulative effect which means once you start losing sleep, it may take you a loo-ong time to get caught up again.

I’m still running around like a mad woman. I do feel sleepy in the early afternoons but nothing I was too worried about until I tried to run a red light the other day, mistaking the red light for green!!!

OMG, it was most shocking that when I saw the light turn green (it was actually red and I’m not color-blind) and started to move, everyone started to blare their horns at me!! Yikes! I could’ve sworn the light was green!

I really do need to get caught up on my sleep. Sigh!

yoga tomorrow

Yay! I’m going to a yoga class tomorrow morning. I started going for a class last year (with another teacher) but dropped out because of a time clash with my schedule then.

I loved that one class I went to. It was such hard work. I perspired like crazy. But I felt great afterwards, almost like I was walking on air. All that stretching is like nothing I’ve ever done.

Found out about this class from a gym buddy who’s been persuading me to join. The class has been on for like a month now. So I guess I’ll be the freshie there tomorrow. Can’t wait. Will update when I get back.

the walk of life

To those of us who want to exercise but can’t seem to stick with anything we try, have you considered walking? I think it’s the easiest and the least strenuous form of exercise, and you don’t need a partner.

I normally start my gym workout by walking a couple of kilometers on the treadmill. I’m in a sharing mood since I missed my workout this morning and need to “walk” myself out of my semi-withdrawal mood. So I’m going to share some walking tips.

1. Get a good pair of walking shoes.

2. Warm up before you start. Your muscles and joints need to be woken up from their slumber.

3. Start on flat ground at an even pace and increase your pace slowly over time.

4. Walking on an incline or slope helps work your heart so gradually incorporate this into your walk.

5. As you build stamina, gradually increase your distance, incline and speed to maximize the benefits. Your body gets conditioned after a while and this is when many people complain that they’re exercising but not seeing any effect.

If you keep this up consistently, you’ll start feeling much healthier and more energetic, I promise. And that endorphin rush, you just gotta love it as much as I do :) . But as always, my key phrase is ”whenever you’re ready”.

There’s no rush to raise the level of your walking routine. If you don’t feel physically up to it (and on certain days, you won’t, that’s okay), just skip it rather than risk injuring yourself. Happy walking ;) .

where the magazines are

If only magazines didn’t cost a small fortune here, I’d be devouring them totally. But they are way too expensive and I can’t afford to order or buy them on a regular basis.

Which makes me a magazine flipper, i.e. someone who flips through magazines while waiting at the hairdresser’s or dentist’s. Even then, these are dog-eared and yellow with age dating back to the last century.

There’s only one place I know of where there are spanking new issues every month. The golf club which we belong to is probably one of the few places that can afford to subscribe to popular magazines and allow us to read them for free.

When I was living in California, magazines were affordable and I used to subscribe to Psychology Today and a couple of others. I used to order them from flyers but DiscountMagazineCenter.com has the Cheapest Authorized Magazines On The Internet!

So logically that’s where you would go for super low prices, free shipping and no sales tax. I see a little button on their site that says “serving US addressees only” which puts me back at the club’s library if I want to get my hands on the latest issues of anything.

you go, girl!

It’s amazing what a two-hour workout can do for someone who’s been pigging out all weekend. Er, that someone would be me, yes.

I spent an hour at line dancing followed immediately afterwards with an hour at the gym. Great workout! Once the endorphins start doing their magic, it makes all that hard work worthwhile!

I’ve been skipping gym the past two weeks. The gym is where I get the best all-round workout and some great laughs. They’re a fun crowd, my gym buddies.

I’m not there to lose weight. I just need to get my butt out of this chair to get some exercise. But if I were trying to lose weight, I think having a bunch of our gym buddies to cheer me on and keep me going would definitely be a big plus.

dieting fun

Nah, dieting can’t be fun. Not that I’ve ever dieted. But I think it’s a necessary evil if you really want to lose some weight.

Dieting won’t work on its own. For maximum effect, you should buddy it up with exercise. And I think if you really want it to work, you shouldn’t think of a diet as a diet.

Rather think of it as eating smaller, healthier portions. Here’s how:

Have Fun with Dieting – Enjoy Your Weight Loss Plan with a Discipline

by Ruth Miller

We know that it’s really hard to stick to those starving diets when it comes to weight loss and it is more disheartening when over time we fail to lose any significant amount of weight.

We run after every possible new dieting idea which comes in the limelight, hoping that this one is going to work finally.

Sigh*** no miracle yet! Actually we often ignore certain things and blame diets for not preventing us from losing weight. People often ignore the eatables they eat but fail to record.

Well, no need to worry if you are one of the dieters who are choosy. Just take care of certain important things.

Know what you are eating and keep a record of that. Make your eating a conscious act. It will keep a check on all temptations.

At the end of the day, check it out what you have consumed in the whole day. You will be wondered to see whether you are actually dieting. Make a plan for the next day and try to avoid things that are out of your diet plan. But yes, don’t forget to note down what you eat. You will improve every day.

Think not once but twice before eating or drinking anything. Eat only when you are hungry not when you are feeling like especially when you get a sight of the eatable.

Don’t go for snacking or having a soft drink when you don’t have anything else to do. Read a book or go for a walk or listen to some good music to pass your time, you can even go for a walk with your walkman. This will help you stay away from those tempting time pass.

Well, it’s good that you stay on your dieting plan strictly but don’t ever starve yourself. It will end up hurting your body. And finally you will be forced to go for a binge eating or things that carry high fats.

Consume at least three meals a day and one or two light snacking. It will help your body remain away from hunger.

Its fine you are a very good dieter but you need not say just good bye to all your favorite food stuffs. You can treat yourself with moderate snacking after achieving a pre-set goal. Remember, you are not cheating your diet but rewarding yourself for remaining on diet. It definitely keeps your motivation high.

So, don’t get scared by tough dieting and take it in an easy way. It’s all in your hand to enjoy your weight loss program, make it fun with healthy food.

daring to dream on

Last night, I dreamt I was a multi-millionaire with a boat, a mansion with 16 rooms and a motley crew of managers, chauffeurs, butlers and maids. I don’t remember seeing a bodyguard but I’m sure he was right there along with the rest.

That was just a dream. Everyone has dreams. Dreams are good so don’t let them out of your sight. But are the people around supportive of your dream of becoming, say, a hugely successful mom or business person?

Or are they a bunch of wet blankets pouring cold water over your littlest whim?

Success – How To Overcome The Naysayers

by Jason Osborn

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said, “We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done.”

Sometimes the closest people to you are the ones that stop you form achieving greatness in your life. You go to them, full of excitement, to tell them all the great things that you want to do in life. Instead of hearing the support and encouragement from your friends and family, you hear words of doubt and fear.

They may not be saying these things to purposely hurt or discourage you, but they don’t want you to fail or get hurt. So, to stop you from getting hurt down the road they try to stop you at the beginning.

Still, others may try to tell you why it can’t be done and how there are many obstacles in the way that can’t be moved. They look at who you are currently and don’t see the greatness that’s hidden on the inside.

Don’t let these people stop you from reaching your greatness. Here are 4 ways to overcome the naysayer’s.

1. Protect Your Dream.

Whenever you have a burning desire to do something great in life, it’s very hard to not tell everyone you know. You just assume that everyone will be just as excited about it as you are.

Minimize the amount of naysayer’s in your life by not telling everyone. You will probably still have people who are negative, but a few naysayers’ are better than a ton of them.

2. Surround Yourself With Greatness.

If you want to do great things in life you need to be around others that have done great things. I’m sure you have heard the saying ‘Success breeds success’.

If you are always around people who have never accomplished anything, and never want to accomplish anything great, it will be hard for you to do it yourself.

Successful people will help you understand how to overcome the obstacles that you will face. Which leads me to the next point.

3. Get A Coach Or A Mentor.

If a professional sports team wants to be the best, they hire a coach to help get them there. If they don’t have a coach that can encourage them, train them, guide them, and give them a good kick in the backside when needed, they will never become a great team.

Find someone that has done something similar to what you want to do and have them mentor you. Keep this in mind, they are probably very busy and may not have any interest in coaching or training anyone.

Don’t let that stop you. If they can’t or won’t, keep looking until you find someone who will. Also, bring something to the table for them as well. You need to give to get.

4. Your Past Doesn’t Dictate Your Future.

You may not have a successful life but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a successful future. Naysayer’s will always try to remind you of your past failures or inadequacies. Keep improving yourself and keep growing. Learn from your past but don’t let it stop you from having a great future.

If there is something that you need to change in your life in order to achieve success, then change it. You are the deciding factor on how great your life is going to be. DON’T let your past dictate your future.

If you want to do something great with your life, there will always be someone there to tell you that it can’t be done. Practice these four keys and you will be able to overcome the naysayer’s.
