Managing Your Home Business

Now that your business is up and running, we’ll show you how to manage it, one step at a time.

Because you’re now your own boss and solely accountable for every cent that you make (or don’t make), one of your biggest concerns will be the cost of running your business.

Working at home involves juggling family, home and business. It’s not always easy to strike a balance. With the hours stretched out before you, you tend to work every minute you can. After all, it’s your own business and you’re eager to work it and make a success of it.

Having said that, there are lots of distractions as well when you have a few balls in the air.

After working at your business for a while, it might become apparent to some (hopefully not you) that they’re not getting anywhere with their business. Or maybe you’ve recently talked to some wet blankets, people who are just plain negative about the idea of a home business.

In every business, you’re bound to come up against challenges. Look at these positively and explore alternatives to overcome them. The key to important thing is to stay cool and be diplomatic.

Every business is subject to ups and downs in what is known as a business cycle. You’re the best judge of how you should use these cycles to your best business advantage. With a little experience, you can become pretty good at this.

These are the sorts of things that trigger doubts in your mind as to whether they’re doing the right thing, or are indeed in the right business even. In many cases, patience is a virtue. Like everything else, businesses take time to bear fruit.

The Smart Mom's Guide To Staying Home

65 Simple Ways To Thrive, Not Deprive, On One Income

By Christine K. Walker

ISBN: 141-200760-7

Retail: $15.95

In a two-income economy families are finding it more and more difficult than ever to make ends meet. Yet, many families are determined to pay off their debts and get one parent home—for the kids! But how can two-income families become one-income families, in a two-income economy? (Try that tongue twister on for size.)

Christine Walker, author of The Smart Mom's Guide To Staying Home, says the answer is "a matter of being frugal, not cheap." In 65 essay-style frugal, but not cheap, tips, walker explains ways she successfully cuts corners without living a deprived lifestyle.

In her book, families are reminded of several ways they overspend without realizing their money is going out the door. She goes into detail, by example, of ways every family can decrease expenses, organize their homes, cut food waste, and literally find stop buying duplicate and overpriced items.

If you're new to cutting corners and living on a tight budget, you'll want to read this book. It's such a leisure read, you can have it completed in one night.

Reader’s Review: This book's got a lot of good stuff in it--those critical factors that help contribute to making good business decisions. I've already seen some improvement in business growth. In fact, the usefulness of Entrepreneur's information is a lot like Guerilla PR: Wired: both have tons of really useful info to entrepreneurs on how to build their business.

Thinking Like An Entrepreneur is a yes-you-too-can-achieve-your-dream-power-of-positive-thinking self-help motivational book coupled with some very serious business analysis. While some people dream of coming up with a hot idea and taking the next great Internet company public, this book focuses on building a real business with real profits. Such businesses can make the founder worth millions of dollars in only a few short years without the company ever becoming public. This book is written for entrepreneurs who want to make their company profitable ASAP.
